"I don't believe it. They f**king forgot my birthday"

I know how you feel, Molly. I told Eric I wanted chinese food for dinner tomorrow night and he was very confused until I reminded him what it was. He's out now trying to get back in my good graces by finding a fantastic gift. I told him it had better be sparkly and expensive to win my forgiveness. :)
I think Faustus is feeling a little neglected with the baby around. He tries to get right underneath Ryan's head whenever I'm nursing. Today was the kind of day where Ryan wasn't happy unless he was in my arms and we were walking. When he finally went down for his nap, Faustus tackled me and gave my face a tongue bath. I wish everyone was that happy to see me.

Billy Joel and the In-laws

This weekend was a memorable one as Eric and I had our first post-baby date. It felt strange to go somewhere without three extra bags and a carseat, but we had a good time. I guess we could have found something a little more wild than a Billy Joel concert in Connecticut... when we first got there I thought we must be the craziest of the bunch since we were drinking Amstel Lite instead of merlot, but I soon smelled that wonderful aroma that reminded me of college and hubby's delinquent roommates. Honestly, who smokes weed at a Billy Joel concert??
The in-laws came for a few days to visit and take care of the little man while we were at the concert. It was a pretty good visit, but I had to really put my foot down a few times. Eric is an only child and still sort of lets them make his decisions for him. Now he's letting them make Ryan's decisions for him... not OK by me, he'll end up as fat and spoiled as the dog (who got to eat a donut against my wishes this weekend.)
I don't know why I thought it was a good idea for me to be a mother. I was stubborn and independent and hated unsolicited advice BEFORE I had Ryan, and now it seems like everyone from my parents to the UPS guy knows how to make sure Ryan is a perfectly behaved baby who will never cry, sleep ten consecutive hours at night, and grow up to be President.

I'm a little behind the times

So I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and try blogging, mostly because I'm a new mom and wanted a place to chronicle this new experience. Of course, now I have no life, so this very well may be the most... boring... blog... ever... :)
A little bit about me: I'm 26 in two days, live in Connecticut (but not the snobby part), and I teach 9th grade English in an urban high school. I've beeen married for 2 1/2 years. We have an 8-week-old son named Ryan who is, of course, the cutest thing ever. Our dog Faustus and cat Callie are still a little miffed at having been demoted.
Ryan has been playing with his baby gym for all of 5 minutes, and he's already fussing. And I thought my 9th graders had a short attention span. I have a feeling all my blog postings will end this abruptly! Until next time.
